Game 1 BIG 12 tournament BYU vs Arizona State


 



Pitching dual for both teams! While BYU pitched a shutout, Arizona State's staff combined for 18 strikeouts - a Big 12 tournament record. Matt King swung the bat well as usual however no one else could seem to get a hit at the right time. Most hits for ASU came with 2 outs. BYU had runners on base multiple times but the 2 runs were enough to secure the win against 5-seeded ASU. Hopefully ASU still has a spot in the playoffs. They had a great year in Tempe but ultimately it's up to the committee who will get to a regional.

 The first weekend in college baseball had some interesting match ups. So who was impressive? First, I'll talk about the teams that stayed undefeated, then the teams who had impressive weekends both at home and on the road. Many teams excelled this weekend but I'll only name a few in this article.  Impressive Undefeated Teams Michigan   went 4-0 in   the   Puerto Rico Challenge this Weekend defeating 4 teams from 4 different conferences. Arizona State was in a dog fight this past weekend vs Ohio State; every game in the series was competitive. ASU managed to go 3-0 and get the sweep. Teams that won the series on the road Illinois (2-1) won 2 out of 3 vs Abilene Christian at Whataburger field in Corpus Christi. Next week the Illini will travel to San Marcos to take on a tough Texas State team. Purdue (4-0) won four straight in Texas vs Stephen F Austin. Next week they play Niagara in North Carolina.
